This motion piece is a tribute to the artist's home town, Madras. It is a cinematic piece which mainly focuses on realism and tries to capture the beauty of my city's extraordinary heritage and culture. Anirudh was born in the 90s in a place called Madras ,now known as Chennai, which is the cultural capital of South India. This beautiful city holds a special place in our hearts and being away from home hasn't been easy for some of us. Anirudh has created these places from memory since most of them do not look the same any more. He wanted to come up with a visually compelling motion piece that will take people of the city back in time and feel extremely nostalgic.

This video is made to look like it is set in the 90s. As they say, our life is basically just a collection of memories. We often associate fond memories with certain places which we would have visited in the past. Playing cricket on the streets, listening to the sounds of birds chirping , waiting for your Sambhar Vada and Pongal (South Indian dishes) to be served before catching the last bus to work in the morning , being given a free ride by an Autorickshaw anna so that you could get to school on time , taking a short nap under the trees on a Sunday afternoon, finding a way to get "first-day first-show" tickets from college friends are little things in life that brought us real happiness. The past is so filled with joy and glory that some of us might not even mind reliving those amazing times again and again. As much as we love home, we love the people there.

No matter who you are, home is always a very special. It is a place where we have people who we can count on and have people who could count on us. We feel so privileged that we got to grow up in Madras, a place that we proudly call home.

Everything that you see in this animation was patiently modeled, textured and animated from scratch using various different computer graphics tools. Animation in general is a tedious and time consuming process. There were many design challenges that he encountered since he had to optimize the humongous environment as much as possible to save time on renders. The tools he initially used weren't considered robust since it could not easily handle large mesh data unlike most real time environment building tools. Anirudh was able to create this piece single-handedly in a short span of time. Creating moving visuals has helped him connect with people and tell stories in a profound way.

The word Chamayalarai in thamizh translates to Kitchen. Folks at home get together and cook delicious food for loved ones.
