These traditional umbrellas are made out of eight cane sticks, cotton cloths, bamboo logs and conch-shaped decorative frills.

Dimensions

The size of the umbrella varies from four and a half to more than eighteen feet in diameter. The Kudai has a long handle which is made out of teak wood or bamboo , and its top part is mostly metal. The canopy and the bottom section of the Kudai have cloth bedding with interesting designs and motifs.
Process
The first stage of the process was collecting reference images and old drawings of a classic Kudai. Anirudh modeled and re-created a generic temple umbrella with a flat top to create the first set of iterations. The abstract collection of renders with orange illustrative vector elements popping out were the first ones to be crafted.
The cinematic approach worked really well as it helped create a dramatic effect for majority of the center-staged establishing shots. Anirudh developed style-frames and compositions that have been made to look as though the beautiful Utsavas were taken down an alley on a misty morning. The atmospheric fog lights and the blurry backgrounds play a key role in contributing to the melodramatic look, giving it a sense of depth.
Time was spent in understanding how the dangling effects could be created in the software. Research and development is a winding process, usually done through trail and error. Creating anything from scratch has its own advantages as it gives the artist more creative control to precisely art direct the work. This begins to give the creator a bird's eye view of the whole process and equip the person with right knowledge to overcome all technical hurdles and shortcomings while drafting an artwork.
